How you can recognize diseased gums
Very often, gum disease goes unnoticed for years because it does not cause pain.
Nevertheless, it can lead to degeneration of bone and, consequently,
to loss of teeth. Therefore, it's important not to overlook certain warning signs.
Here are several signs which point towards gum disease:
- Bleeding gums caused by brushing with a toothbrush or an interdental toothbrush
- Swelling of gums between the teeth or at the gumline
- Darker color in comparison to pale-pink, healthy gums
- Bad taste
- Bad breath
- Moveable teeth: When teeth start to "wander", become longer in appearance or spaces appear in-between
- Recession of gums
In all of the above cases, your gums should be examined.
